The Postal Museum launches an Environmental Sustainability Framework.

Today is International Museum Day. Each year since 1977, ICOM has organised International Museum Day, which represents a unique moment for the international museum community – this year’s theme is “Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing”.

Today, in response to this important them, we are launching The Postal Museum’s Environmental Sustainability Framework 2023-2029.

The Postal Museum recognises the urgent need to take action to address the climate emergency. We aim to make meaningful changes to our operation and be making tracked progress towards Net Zero emissions by 2040.

We want to embed environmental responsibility within all aspects of our work and ensure everyone understands their role in supporting delivery.

Our Framework was developed with support from Eight Versa, ideas generated by the museums’ cross-departmental Sustainability Working Group and responds to our Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation plan.

We were pleased to welcome Arts Council England CEO Darren Henley to the museum this morning to mark International Museum Day. On his visit, we shared our progress against our ACE Activity Plan. As one of 276 new organisations who became NPOs this April, we have an important role to play not only minimising our own impact, but effectively communicating our environmental responsibility to all our audiences.
