Save yourself annoyance

Save yourself annoyance. PRD 1096, 1960, POST 110/1404

Victoria Davidson who styled herself simply ‘Victoria’ produced posters for the Post Office in the 1960s. She had been born Lilli Ursula Barbara Commichau in Munich, Bavaria. A member of the Society of Industrial Artists, she contributed illustrations to the magazines ‘Picture Post’ and ‘Liliput’. She also produced a greetings telegram for the Post Office in 1963.

There’s one other Victoria Davidson poster in our collections, with the same art style but a different message.

  • Have you bought your Christmas gifts for posting overseas? Poster by Victoria Davidson

Have you bought your Christmas gifts for posting overseas? PRD 1617, 1965, POST 110/1491

This is her take on the ‘last posting dates for Christmas’ message.

It features the owl and the pussycat, who evidently left it too late to post their Christmas presents. They’re having to ferry themselves across the sea in their pea-green boat. The pussycat doesn’t look too happy about the situation.

By the way, we have more owls and pussycats in our Online Catalogue.
