Having spent the Second World War in New York, illustrator Carol Barker returned to study at the Bournemouth College of Art. She later attended Chelsea and the Central School of Arts and Crafts, becoming a freelance illustrator in 1958 specialising in children’s books. She also designed stamps and posters for the Post Office as well as work for London Transport.
