Our year in pictures. Check out the top 10 Instagram pictures of 2018.

1. Memories of the Mail

Since the opening of The Postal Museum, you’ve shared many memories of the mail with us. Who needs a postage address nowadays if you can just use a picture of your favourite food packaging? The posties are just genius! This post was our number 1 on the @thepostalmuseum Instagram last year.

2. Mail Rail Tunnels at its Best

Back in June, we’ve teamed up with wonderful @London4all to host winners of their photo competition on an exclusive trip to Mail Rail. It was a rare opportunity for a group of influencers to access the 100-year-old Mail Rail tunnels after hours for a photography session. The final shots were simply stunning and this is one of them from @pli.panda

3. Hunt for Festive Postal Museum Cat

After a short break, our popular cat contest was back once again, this time we were in search of a reliable purr-fessional to help us during a busy festive season. You passionately voted for your favourite mouser and the lucky Idris has been crowned December Postal Museum Puss.

4. Pride in London

We’re keeping up-to-date with the latest events happening in the capital and beyond. The colourful Pride in London festival is one of our favourites so we couldn’t resist sharing a picture of a special rainbow post box. Archivist Helen marked the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality with this blog looking at the records of Post Office’s employees.

5. Women in First World War

That’s what we call a Girl Power! We can’t stop admiring these fascinating postwomen. Read more about the roles of women in the Post Office.

6. Votes for Women

From spotlight exhibition talks, interactive theatre performances, to a special archive suffrage display. We put up events for London History Day last May celebrating 100 years since the Representation of the People Act gave some women the right to vote.

7. Mural for Museum of the Year

Last July we were super excited to see the unveiling of the new mural on our museum wall. It was designed by talented @atmastudio in celebration of us being a finalist of the Art Fund’s Museum of the Year Award.

8. Arthur the Cat

Reporting for duty, our very first Christmas mouser Arthur made us giggle back in January. Check out all the postal cats with #jobsfurcats

9. Throwback with the Archives

We love sharing our Archive images for #ThrowbackThursday. This one of a postman in Northern Ireland from the late 1980s was by far your favourite.

10. John’s Memory of the Mail

We’re still blushing reading this card…memories to cherish! Perhaps, you inspired some of our readers, John?
