Local Communities

From Mail Rail to our Archive, we want to be a space for anyone to come and explore the history of post and communication.

Our community team is dedicated to fostering meaningful relationships, cultural enrichment, and lifelong learning through a range of programmes and activities. We want to offer our local communities opportunities to explore, engage, and contribute to the museum.

Community Access Scheme

We offer substantially discounted tickets to local Camden and Islington community groups or charitable organisations. The Community Access Scheme offers:

  • Up to 16 annual and reusable tickets priced at £1 per person that can be used for entry to Mail Rail and our museum galleries. These tickets last for one year and can be used repeatedly with different users of your community group or charitable organisation.
  • Free tours and creative workshops as part of your group visit and through outreach sessions in your organisation.
  • The opportunity to receive email updates about our community programmes from The Postal Museum throughout the year.

Who can apply?

Membership to the scheme will be granted to organisations based in Camden or Islington who would otherwise be unable to afford the usual group price, or for those who paying this price would be a significant difficulty.

To be eligible, organisations must be providing free or low-cost activities and/or services to people who face significant barriers to accessing the museum, and/or are underrepresented within it and its collections.

This includes: older socially isolated people, young people aged 16-25, people on low incomes or in receipt of benefits, disabled people, LGBTQIA+ people, and Asian, Black and other ethnically diverse people.

Not based in Camden or Islington? If your group fits the above criteria and would benefit from a visit to The Postal Museum, then please get in touch at  [email protected]

Membership to the Community Access Scheme will be valid for one year from the date your application is approved. After this time membership can be renewed on an annual basis.

Up to 16 discounted tickets per organisation.

Tickets can be used for adults or children as part of a group visit led by your organisation. These tickets also include any you might need for your group leaders or accompanying volunteers. A free companion or carer ticket can be added for any D/deaf, disabled or neurodiverse members of your group.

Once your application has been approved to join the Scheme, you will receive a confirmation email and a Community Access Scheme Welcome Pack that will contain all the information you need to book your visits to the museum.

  • Visit our website to learn more about access information for the Mail Rail ride and The Postal Museum galleries.
  • We have partnered with Ambitious About Autism to create resources for neurodiverse visitors, including visual stories and pre-visit films.
  • We also hold Post Early events for autistic and neurodiverse visitors or those who would benefit from visiting the museum at a quieter time.
  • We have BSL tours for D/deaf and hard of hearing people and audio-described tours for blind and visually impaired people.
  • If you would like to book a group visit for Post Early or an audio described or BSL tour then please let us know by emailing [email protected]
  • If your group would benefit from visiting when the museum is quieter these times are generally afternoons Tuesday-Friday from 14:00.
