Work Experience

Find out about Work Experience placements offered at The Postal Museum and how to apply.

We are currently not accepting temporary work placements at the moment. Please continue to look back at this page for further updates.

Our placements are designed to support individuals planning to pursue a career within a Museum setting. Work Experience may be particularly relevant to students aged 15+ and graduates.

All placements are unpaid and voluntary, are usually offered across one week and are only available if there is capacity in the museum team to support the placement. Work Experience applicants are subject to an interview.

Applicants wishing to undertake a placement of up to a maximum of three weeks, please contact [email protected] with details and your preferred dates before completing the application form.

We offer placements in the following areas:

  • Fundraising
  • Reception/Front of House

We have separate information about volunteering at The Postal Museum if you would like to volunteer your time on a regular basis.

Work Experience Tips

Research

Look at our website for the latest news and blogs. Find out which department interests you the most. Visit the Museum and write down what you enjoyed and any questions you may have.

Application

Complete the application on your own. Be specific in the type of experience you are looking for, and which department you think best meets your need. Give us as many optional dates as possible. Be clear and concise; ask a family member or teacher to check your spelling and grammar.

Experience

Use relevant examples to complement your application. You can use examples and experience gained at school. For example, if you’re interested in applying for a Front of House placement, you could tell us about a time you supported your school during an open evening.

How to Apply

  • Read through the above information first.
  • Inform your Career Department where possible.
  • Download and complete the Work Experience Form and send to [email protected]
  • If your application is successful, you will be invited to visit the Museum for a tour and an interview.
  • Once successful, we will aim to match your preferred placement dates and team.
