The Postal Museum to sell limited edition David Gentleman prints of Mail Rail tunnels

We are delighted to announce that limited edition prints, created and donated by legendary stamp designer David Gentleman, will go on sale from Friday 7 November to the general public.

David Gentleman, one of the most prolific and distinguished figures in stamp design history, created these prints from first-hand sketches of the Mail Rail tunnels, visiting two years before The Postal Museum opened in 2015. The sketches were inspired by Edward Bawden’s linocut produced in 1935 for a proposed GPO poster. This is a unique opportunity to own one of 50 limited-edition David Gentleman prints.

Thanks to Gentleman’s generous donation, all profits from the sales of these prints will go directly to The Postal Museum, enabling our charitable work with schools and communities whilst helping to keep Mail Rail running for future generations to enjoy.

David Gentleman said:

In 2015 ahead of The Postal Museum opening, I spent some time in the Mail Rail Tunnels making these sketches. As a long-time supporter, I then produced and donated prints of my sketches to raise funds for the museum. I hope the funds raised will help The Postal Museum to carry on telling the story of postal communication and to inspire future generations.

Laura Wright, CEO of The Postal Museum said:

Ware extremely grateful to David Gentleman for donating these unique prints. All profits from sales will go directly to The Postal Museum helping us bring the story of the postal service to life for future generations.”
