Archive facilities

Information for visitors on general facilities, lockers, computer and internet access, copying and photography in the Discovery Room.

No food or drink is allowed in the Discovery Room, this helps us all to protect the original documents. If you would like something to eat or drink, there is The Café in the Welcome Space downstairs, with additional outside seating in the courtyard.

Toilets are available in the Welcome Space on the ground floor.

Lockers are available in the Discovery Room for people using the archive’s reading room; they are to the right of the Discovery Room entrance.

Computer and internet access

• There is free wi-fi available for you to use your laptop/tablet/phone. Desktop computers with internet access are also available, though priority will be given to microfilm users.
• Most desks have power points for laptops.
• The Ancestry website is available through the desktops.

Copying facilities/camera use

Some books and documents can be copied in the Discovery Room providing they are not too fragile. We allow use of handheld cameras (phones, tablets etc) but tripods/stands, flash photography and handheld scanners are not permitted.

Copies can be taken by phone, camera, or you can pay for a small number of copies to be made by Discovery Room staff or to print copies from microfilm.
