The Jolly Postman programme

Over the hills and far away, get ready to be a Jolly Postie today.

Two part programme includes:

  • 45 minute Outreach workshop (Tuesdays/Wednesdays)
  • 45 minute Museum workshop (Mondays)
  • Group size: 35 pupils max, up to 3 classes per day
    Adult : pupil ratio 1:3 (FDN) 1:4 (KS1) (plus SEND support staff)
    FDN Literacy, Understanding the World, Communication and Language
    KS1 Literacy, Geography, History, Maths, Art and Design

    *Book Outreach workshops in your school and museum workshops in the same half term. We recommend within two weeks.

  • Cost per class

    Greater London: £250 +VAT (£300 inc.VAT)
    John Lyon’s boroughs: £150 +VAT (£180 inc.VAT)

    Travel fee

    Outreach workshops can be booked by schools in Greater London up to a 20km radius from The Postal Museum. (Schools 15-20km may be charged a £100 flat rate travel fee).

    Available for schools in nine John Lyon’s boroughs:

    Barnet, Brent, Camden, City of London, City of Westminster, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Kensington & Chelsea

    The Jolly Postman goody bag

    The Jolly Postman programme includes a goody bag with a book for your class and letter writing set for each child.

    Generously provided by Penguin Books and Blake envelopes.

    Once upon a bicycle far away (Outreach workshop)

    Join a lively literacy mission over the hills and far away to help The Jolly Postman deliver letters today. Collect, sort and deliver post for familiar fairy tale characters.

    Packed with intriguing props, including a giant version of the enchanting book use songs, rhyme, mime and movement to bring the story to life and discover the magic of sending and receiving letters.

  • Once upon a penny

    Once upon a penny long ago (Museum workshop)

    Take on a museum mission to deliver letters from long ago. Trace an intriguing timeline through the centuries from the world’s very first stamp to perils faced by posties in the past.

    Peer through magnifying glasses, get hands on with unusual objects and dress up in curious costumes. Solve riddles and clues to reveal how the real history of the post can be just as surprising as fiction.
