Children’s birthday parties FAQs

Celebrate your child’s special day at The Postal Museum!

How do I book a birthday party?

If you are interested in holding a party, please complete and return the Birthday Party Booking Form. Birthday parties must be booked no less than 30 days before the event date.

What age group do you cater for?

Our parties cater for 8 year olds and under. This is based on the nature and suitability of the activities in Sorted!, our children’s play area.

How many children can I invite?

Our birthday parties can host up to 30 children. Please refer to the booking form for full information.

Special Delivery (£500 + VAT)
The package is based on 20 children – you can invite less, but will still be charged the standard package rate. Alternatively you can add up to 10 more children at £15 per child.

Stay & Play (£250 + VAT)
This package is based on 30 children – you can invite less, but will still be charged the standard package rate.

When can I hold the party?

Birthday parties are available on Saturdays and Sundays.
Please note we have limited availability for birthday parties during school holidays.

If you would like to hold your party during the week, we will do our best to accommodate. Please enquire at: kidsparties@postalmuseum.org

What catering is there for children?

For the Special Delivery party, each party child receives their own lunch pack containing:

  • Cheddar cheese roll or honey roast ham roll
  • Pot of fresh grapes
  • Bag of crisps
  • Chocolate krispie cake
  • Bottle of milk, orange or apple juice or mini water bottle

These packs are made on site by the Counter Café staff.
For the Stay & Play package, the Sorted! refreshment trolley will be available to purchase drinks and light snacks.

Can I upgrade my package?

You are able to build upon the Special Delivery package to make the party even more special. Please use our Birthday Party Booking Form to select extras for your party.

Can I bring my own food?

No outside food is allowed, other than a birthday cake which must be pre-arranged with us. You can order additional food via our Birthday Party Booking Form.

What if one of my guests has a food allergy?

We will do our best to cater for any special dietary requirement, please let us know upon enquiring.

Can I go on the Mail Rail ride as part of my party?

Upgrades to include a ride on the Mail Rail will be available from February 2018 onwards.

Do adults need to attend the party?

A member of staff is included for the duration of the Special Delivery package but will need a helping hand from adults.

Is food provided for adults?

Food is not provided for adults unless you have pre-ordered adult catering on the Birthday Party Booking Form.

How soon do I need to confirm any additional extras?

All elements of the party need to be confirmed upon booking. We are unable to accept any additional catering requirements on the day.

How early can we arrive?

We recommend that your guests arrive 5 minutes before your time slot. The party can not start earlier or finish later than stated on the booking form.

Where can we put our bags and presents?

Bags and presents can be brought into Sorted! If you book the Special Delivery package, they will need to be transferred up into the party room after your play slot. The museum also has lockers that you can use to store any belongings. The Postal Museum will not take responsibility for any lost or damaged items.
