Communities & Community Groups

From Mail Rail to our archives, we want to be a space for anyone to come and explore the history of post and communication.

We would like to start building relationships with local community groups and charitable organisations.

If your organisation would like to know about The Postal Museum’s future community programmes and events or if you are interested in partnering on a project with us then get in touch: [email protected]

Community Access Scheme

We’d like to invite local community groups or charitable organisations to join our Community Access Scheme which offers substantially discounted tickets for group visits. These tickets last for one year and can be used repeatedly with different users of your community group or charitable organisation.

Benefits of the Community Access Scheme

  • Up to 16 annual and reusable tickets priced at £1 per person that can be used for entry to Mail Rail and our museum galleries
  • Opportunities to take part in free tours and creative workshops as part of your group visit and through outreach sessions in your organisation
  • The opportunity to receive email updates about our community programmes from The Postal Museum throughout the year
  • We hope to offer more benefits as the scheme develops and as we gather feedback from members

Who can apply?

Community groups or charitable organisations based in Islington or Camden are welcome to apply to the Community Access Scheme via email (see our Applications section below.)

Membership to the scheme will be granted to organisations who would otherwise be unable to afford the usual group price, or to whom paying this price would be a significant difficulty.

To be eligible, organisations must be providing free or low-cost activities and / or services to people who face significant barriers to accessing and / or are underrepresented within the museum and its collections. This includes older socially isolated people, young people aged 16-25, people on low incomes or in receipt of benefits, disabled people, LGBTQIA+ people, and Asian, Black and other ethnically diverse people.

We want to welcome as many community groups as we can to the museum. If your group fits the above criteria and would benefit from a visit to The Postal Museum but you are not based in Camden or Islington, then please get in touch with our Booking Support Team via [email protected] or on + 44 (0)300 0300 700. Phones are open 10.00 – 17.00, Monday – Saturday.

Membership to the Community Access Scheme will be valid for one year from the date your application is approved. After this time membership can be renewed on an annual basis.

Up to 16 discounted tickets per organisation.

Tickets can be used for adults or children as part of a group visit led by your organisation. These tickets also include any you might need for your group leaders or accompanying volunteers. A free companion or carer ticket can be added for any D/deaf, disabled or neurodiverse members of your group on their visit.

Once your application has been approved to join the scheme, you will receive a confirmation email and a Community Access Scheme Welcome Pack that will contain all the information you need to book your visits to the museum.

  • Visit our website to learn more about access information for the Mail Rail ride and The Postal Museum galleries.
  • We have partnered with Ambitious About Autism to create resources for neurodiverse visitors, including visual stories and pre-visit films.
  • We also hold Post Early events for autistic and neurodiverse visitors or those who would benefit from visiting the museum at a quieter time.
  • We have BSL tours for D/deaf and hard of hearing people and audio-described tours for blind and visually impaired people.
  • If you would like to book a group visit for Post Early or an audio described or BSL tour then please let us know by emailing [email protected]
