Sent to the nurse?
6 – 30 August
From the 1960s the Post Office employed nurses in increasing numbers. This led to questions about their role, their relationship with other staff, and which union should represent them. This display uses records from the archive to tell the story of nurses in the Post Office.
The end of the GPO, 1969
3 – 28 September
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Post Office ceasing to be a government department and becoming a public corporation, this display will use contemporary documents to illustrate the milestone.
1 October – 2 November
This display will look at the fictional private detective Sherlock Holmes and his depiction on stamps, revealing the secret clues to be found in the designs.
The Discovery Room is open Tuesday to Friday and every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 10.00 – 17.00 (excluding bank holidays), to visitors who want to delve deeper into the history of the postal service, and study original archive material.
