100 years ago, the Representation of the People Act gave some women the right to vote. Join us on London History Day to celebrate!

From rosette making, and spot-light tours, to a suffragette rally – led by the fearless Miss Solomon and Miss McLellan. Don’t forget to pop into the Discovery Room to explore original records revealing the plight of campaigning postal workers.

Deeds not Words at The Postal Museum for London History Day

Suffragettes and Pioneering Postwomen – Spotlight Exhibition Talks

Where: The Postal Museum Exhibition Space, Ground floor
When: 10.00-11.00 and 15.00-16.00 

Find out about the suffragettes who posted themselves to the Prime Minister, the pioneering postwomen who led the way for female post workers, and the heroic role that women played keeping the postal and telephone services going during the World Wars. Join our Visitor Hosts in The Postal Museum Exhibition Space for spotlight talks about some of the courageous women from the history of post.


‘Votes for Women’ Rally –  Interactive Theatre Performance

Where: The Postal Museum Exhibition Space, Ground floor
When: 11.00 onwards. Suffragette Rally in the Courtyard at 3pm.

Join campaigners Miss Solomon and Miss McLellan to find out more about the suffrage movement – and then roll up to our ‘votes for women’ rally to discover what happened when they posted themselves to 10 Downing Street! The Big Wheel Theatre Company present pop up performances about suffragettes and the post.


Rosette and Placard MakingArts and Crafts

Where: The Postal Museum Learning Space, First floor
When:
10.00-12.00 and 13.00-15.00

Help us celebrate the ‘Votes for Women’ movement by making your own rosettes and placards in this arts and craft session, and then bring your masterpieces along to our suffragette rally in the courtyard later that day.

Hidden Heroes – From the Archive

Where: The Discovery Room at The Postal Museum, First floor
When: Drop-in 10.00-17.00 

Enter our Discovery Room and explore original archive records that shed light on ‘hidden heroes’ – postal workers who were secretly part of the women’s suffrage movement on display exclusively for London History Day.

Ticket not required for access to the Discovery Room.
